What is AILET?

AILET stands for All India Law Entrance Test. It is the entrance exam conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to its undergraduate BA LLB (Hons.), postgraduate LLM, and PhD programmes. NLU Delhi is one of the top five law universities in India, and AILET is the only way to get in — the university does not accept CLAT scores.

Every year, thousands of law aspirants across India appear for AILET competing for roughly 110 seats in the BA LLB programme. The exam is known for its emphasis on logical reasoning, which carries the highest weightage among all sections.

AILET 2026 Exam Date

AILET 2026 was conducted on 14 December 2025 in offline (pen-and-paper) mode. The exam was held in a single shift from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM across multiple exam centres in India.

The exam was originally scheduled for 7 December 2025 but was later rescheduled to 14 December 2025 by NLU Delhi.

Preparation Tips

If you are planning to appear for AILET in the upcoming cycle, here are some practical tips:

Focus on Logical Reasoning first. It carries 70 out of 150 marks. If you can score well here, you are already close to a good rank. Practice at least 30–40 reasoning questions daily from books like RS Aggarwal or Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey.

Read newspapers daily for GK. The Hindu or Indian Express, combined with a monthly current affairs magazine, covers most of what AILET asks. Pay special attention to awards, international summits, and legal developments.

English needs practice, not just theory. Solve reading comprehension passages regularly. Focus on inference-based questions — AILET tends to ask questions that go beyond surface-level reading.

Solve previous year papers. AILET repeats its question style. Doing the last 5–7 years of papers gives you a clear idea of what to expect and helps with time management.

Time management matters. You have 150 questions in 120 minutes — that is less than 50 seconds per question. Practice with a timer. If a question takes more than a minute, move on and come back later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AILET the same as CLAT?

No. AILET is conducted by NLU Delhi for admission to its own programmes. CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to all other NLUs except NLU Delhi. The exam patterns are also different — AILET has more logical reasoning questions while CLAT focuses more on reading comprehension and legal reasoning.

Can I get into NLU Delhi through CLAT?

No. NLU Delhi does not accept CLAT scores. You must clear AILET to get admission to NLU Delhi.

Is there an age limit for AILET?

No. There is no upper age limit for appearing in AILET. Candidates of any age who meet the educational qualification can apply.

What is a good score in AILET?

For the General category, a score of 85–95 out of 150 is typically considered competitive for the BA LLB programme. For reserved categories, the cutoff is usually lower. The exact cutoff varies each year based on the difficulty level and number of applicants.

Will AILET 2027 have the same pattern?

While NLU Delhi generally maintains a similar exam pattern, minor changes are possible. Always check the official notification when it is released for the next cycle.
